Guacamole Shrimp Flatbread Cones

Whenever I go to a super fancy party (or, more accurately, whenever I see one on TV) I am particularly interested in how the passed hors d’oeuvres are so thoughtfully chosen for effortless consumption while holding a glass of champagne. The nuance of creating sophisticated delicacies that require no utensils to enjoy is something that I strive to master each time I host a party of my own. I mentally make a list of all the finger foods I can think of, and then consider how they might translate to something more…adult.

This holiday season, I’m going next level. My daughter is finally at the age where she wants to help in the kitchen and I intend to take full advantage of her newfound interest. I have graduated my annual holiday party featuring me, sweating in an apron, to the kind where I sip cocktails and charm guests as the appetizers are passed around by a lovely and gracious young lady, to everyone’s absolute delight.

Labor sorted out, the question turns to what I can prepare that will be worthy of this elegant soiree? The stroke of genius, as it often does, comes in the form of Flatout Flatbreads. I’ve been known to create delicious flatbread pizzas, rolls and scrumptious desserts using these miracle flatbread wraps and they’re always a big hit. I wanted to maintain the stress-free deliciousness I’ve enjoyed in the past, while making an unexpected splash. Introducing, the Avocado and Shrimp Flatbread Cones.

While my guests are sure to think I have some sort of pastry chef background, these are incredibly easy appetizers for a party (or for everyday snacks). And, once you’ve baked them up, you can play around with fillings. For my party, I am going for shrimp and avocado, because, classy. I will prepare the fillings ahead of time, and leave it to my daughter to assemble and pass around. If you don’t have a daughter, it’s easy enough to do quickly yourself while still being a present host. Other fillings that I plan to try include: chorizo and cheese, hummus and crudité and chocolate mousse and strawberries.

I notice at all those fancy parties I attend vicariously through my cable box that party snack presentation is essential to achieving a lavish vibe. And cones are best presented standing up. No need to call in Amazon Prime for some overpriced cone-holders. All you need is an empty cereal box, a sharp knife and some pretty, shiny wrapping paper. Voila! (That’s French for “may I offer you another delicious avocado shrimp cone?”)

Guacamole Shrimp Flatbread Cones

Ingredients

  • 1 Flatout® Flatbread
  • ½ cup of guacamole
  • 4 cooked shrimp

Directions

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Cut Flatout in half and roll into a cone shape, insert a toothpick inside the cone where the ends meet in order to hold in place. Bake upside down for 5 minutes or until it begins to brown. Let cool at least 5 minutes (cooling helps make them crisp!). Fill bottom with a little string cheese “plug” and fill with guacamole. Top each cone with two cooked shrimp.

Suggested Flatout: ProteinUp - Core12, The Original
